Early Life[edit]
Dr soul was born on August 3rd 1995, in Nigeria (likely in the city of Onitsha, the eastern part of Nigeria) .[4][5] One of three siblings raised by his foster parents. He realized his passion for music at a young age, often singing at birthday parties, friends gathering and even going n the streets. He credits his childhood friends who kept pushing him to explore this early love for music. His father wasn’t in support of his musical aspirations and sent him to medical school of which he did his MD, hence where he got the suffix in his artist name “Dr” . After medical school, he moved to the states to take his Medical Board Exams but his life took a turn when he had an opportunity to go for American Idol.
Career-2019[edit]
Dr Soul self-released his debut single "Lucid Dreams" in Sept 13th 2021.[8] Shortly after, his appearance on American Idol. He has since performed his song on various shows/events including Chicago Fashion Week.
Even as an unsigned Artist , he making strides in his city and beyond. He has performed in over 10 cities around the Us. He however hopes to get singed by the right label that would push his career to the next level.
Chukwuka Okafo (born August 3, 1995), better known by his Artist name Dr Soul (stylized as Dr Søul), is an Nigerian-American singer-songwriter. He rose to prominence after his appearance on American Idol in 2020/2021 of which he was part of the top 40 contestants. The following year, Dr Soul released his first single Lucid Dream which garnered over 10,000 streams in the first month of release. The following year he released another single called Soul Fire. He opened up for a number of top tier Afrobeat artists like Bella Shmurda, Psquare, 9ice, Omahlay. He has also performed at one of the biggest African comedy show called AY Live.
Artistry[edit]
Dr Soul is known for his sultry impeccable falsetto vocals.[30] He is inspired by Blues from the 80’s.[30] He cites Celine Dion; Enya; Sam Smith , Mariah Carey as some of his biggest influences.[31]
