Early Life
Tahnee was born and raised in Mareeba, a town in rural Far North Queensland. She attended Mareeba State Primary School, followed by Mareeba State High School before gaining entry to James Cook University School of Medicine. Tahnee graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery.[2] [3]
During her medical studies, Tahnee lost a colleague to suicide in addition to being diagnosed with anorexia nervosa. This contributed to her choosing a future career path in mental health.[4] [5]
Career
Tahnee began specialising in the field of psychiatry on completing her junior doctor years. In 2020, Tahnee founded the bi-national organisation 'Hand-n-Hand Peer Support' which provides free and confidential peer support to all healthcare workers across Australia and New Zealand. This was created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to support healthcare workers during unprecedented times. Tahnee was awarded the Queensland Young Australian of the Year for 2022 in addition to a number of other awards as a result of this work.[5]
