Dr. Vijay G. Surase is a well-known interventionist and a leading cardiologist.[1] Based in Mumbai and working with Jupiter Hospital, Thane, Vijay Surase holds a record of performing 36 angiographies in a single day during a multi-day camp. Recently, he performed a mitral valve implantation on Pratibha Pradhan, wife of Thane’s first Mayor Satish Pradhan.[2]
Early Life
Born in Aurangabad, he did his MBBS and MD in Internal Medicine from Government Medical College and Hospital under Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad. He did his DM in Cardiology under B. K. Goyal at Bombay Hospital and started his career as a cardiologist in 1999.
Personal Life
Vijay Surase is married to Pallavi Surase (Rodgé), who is presently an educator at Seth G. S. Medical College and King Edward Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. The couple has two daughters.
Achievements
Surase put in tremendous efforts to secure tax exemption (from 12.5% to 5%) on AICDs and other life-saving medical devices from then-Deputy CM Ajit Pawar.[3] He has served as Honorary Consultant to the Mumbai Police and the Governor of Maharashtra.
Career
Vijay Surase commenced his career as a specialist cardiologist at Asian Heart Institute with Dr. Ramakanta Panda at Bandra Kurla Complex, Bandra East, Mumbai.
Social work
Surase has worked determinedly for several social causes and supports the education and health of underprivileged people. Surase offers free services regularly at Civil Hospital, Thane and at Shri Vinoba Bhave Civil Hospital in Silvasa.
Awards
Vijay Surase received the Jury's Choice Award for the Best Interventional Cardiologist in India, 2015. Vijay Surase also won the AIAC Awards for Excellence in 2015.[4]
