FAMILY[edit]

Dr Vijay Kumar Kohli was son of Shri Madan Lal Kohli and grandson of Rai Sahib Lala Hari Ram Kohli who was a renowned advocate and British government honoured him with the title of Rai Sahib. Dr Kohli belonged to Kot Ahmad Khan village of Amritsar which is now known as Achint Kot village in the name of a great freedom fighter Lala Achint Ram, father of Shri Krishan Kant Kohli, former Vice President of India.

Dr Vijay Kumar Kohli belonged to the family of great Arya Samaj leader Swami Shraddhanand Ji, Lala Achint Ram Kohli, Sh Krishan Kant Kohli, Admiral Sorender Nath Kohli etc.

Lala Achint Ram Kohli was the uncle of Shri Madan Lal Kohli. Smt. Satyavati Devi, wife of Lala Achint Ram Kohli and mother of Sh Krishan Kant Kohli was the grand daughter of Shri Munshi Ram Ji who later became Swami Shraddhanand Ji of Arya Samaj and established Gurukul Kangri, Haridwar

Dr Kohli remained President of Arya Samaj, DAV College Marg, Ambala for many years and propagated the values of Swami Dayanand Saraswati through Arya Samaj

Dr Kohli married to Smt. Usha Kohli in the year 1964 and blessed with two sons. The elder son Dr Vivek Kohli is presently working as Principal of Sohan Lal DAV College of Education, Ambala City, Haryana and the younger one Dr Vikas Kohli is working as Principal of Police DAV Public School, Ambala City, Haryana.

EDUCATION[edit]

Dr Vijay Kumar Kohli, a teacher educator of nation-wide eminence, had an area privilege of receiving education in famous seats of learning including Visva Bharati University, Santniketan, M.S., B.T. and M.Ed examinations with distinction, he earned his Ph.D. in Education from the Centre of Advanced Study in Education (CASE) of Baroda which is internationally known in the field.

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH[edit]

Having worked as school Principal and a Lecturer in a College of Education for more than two decades, he served as Principal in D.A.V. College of Education Hoshiarpur (Punjab) as well as Sohan Lal D.A.V. College of Education Ambala for more than 15 years. He also worked as Regional Director of D.A.V. institutions, Haryana. He was founded Manager of many DAV Public Schools including Murlidhar DAV Senior Secondary Public School, Ambala; DAV Public School, Rajpura; DAV Public School, Kurukshetra. He remained Dean of Colleges, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra from 1993 to 1996.

AWARDS[edit]

In 1986 he won the prestigious National Award from NCERT, Government of India for his innovations in teacher education. Again he was bestowed with another National Award from All India DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi on the occasion of Centenary Celebrations of DAV Movement on 1st June 1986. In 1991 he was chosen for DAV Meritorious Award in view of his long and dedicated services to the cause of DAV and received this honour from the hands of the Prime Minister Chander Shekhar on 20th April 1991. The Rotary Club and Lions Club too honored him for his services to the Cause of Education.

AUTHOR[edit]

Dr. Kohli authored of a number of books on Education including  “Teacher Education in India” sponsored by UGC; “Indian Education and its Problems.”; “How to Teach Science”.

FOREIGN VISITS[edit]

Dr. Kohli was a widely travelled person. In 1980 he visited London to participate in International Aryan Conference. He also visited a number of Universities, reputed schools and colleges of Great Britain. In 1988 he visited Australia to represent D.A.V. College Managing Committee at the 34th World Education Conference and contributed to the development of Education.

MEMBER OF EDUCATIONAL BODIES[edit]

Dr. Kohli was intimately connected with a number of national and international bodies concerning education. He was life member of most of them including All India Association of Education Technology, Indian Association of Teacher Educators, All India Association of Educational Research and World Council for Curriculum and Instruction.
