Drew Leavens (born October 1, 1952) is a Democratic candidate for the US House of Representatives from the state of California, for the 45th District.[1]

Early years and education

Drew Eugene Leavens was born October 1, 1952. After receiving his AA degree from Ventura Community college in 1972, he transferred to California State University at Sonoma where he received his BA. Leavens spent a year working with delinquent adolescent females in a residential setting as part of his Master's work. He received his MA in Psychology (counseling emphasis) in 1975.[2]

Career

Drew Leavens began working as a crisis counselor in 1975. Two years later, he was made the manager of what became known as The Crisis Team. He received his marriage, family and child counseling license (MFCC) in 1978 and soon after started a small private counseling practice. His first published article, “Suicide Intervention for First Responders” appeared in the book Conflict Intervention in Social and Domestic Violence, edited by Carmen Warner (1981). While still manager of The Crisis Team, he was approached by Caltrans to assist in reducing the number of suicides off the Coronado Bridge.

In 1985 Drew formed his own company, Drew Leavens and Associates, later renamed Specialized Training Services (STS). The company initially provided training to the county probation and sheriff’s offices throughout California but soon expanded to larger target audiences throughout the United States, Canada and Western Europe.[citation needed]

2014 Candidate For Congress

Leavens is running for election in California's 45th Congressional District. Incumbent John B. T. Campbell III is retiring.[3] Leavens is running against Republican candidate Mimi Walters.[1] He is endorsed by the National Organization for Women.[4]
