Drew Ray Tanner (born February 12, 1992)[1] is an American actor, known for his role as Fangs Fogarty on The CW series Riverdale.
Early life
Tanner was born in 1992 in Victoria, British Columbia to an unnamed father and his mother, Amber Chung.[2] He grew up in Aldergrove, British Columbia with his older brother, Taylor Tanner, and graduated from W. J. Mouat Secondary School.[3][4] Tanner performed in local theater shows, and at age 14 joined an improv troupe. In his senior year of high school, he auditioned for the Spring production, landing the leading role. The show ran for four weeks, and by the final night, Tanner had decided this was something he wanted to pursue.[5]
Career
Tanner began auditioning and the day before his 19th birthday, booked his first part in R.L. Stine's The Haunting Hour in 2010. After this, he was cast in various roles in the television shows, Arrow, iZombie, Supernatural, and Supergirl before booking a small part in the big-budget movie, Saban's Power Rangers in 2017, which was met with mixed reviews from critics.[6][7]
In 2017, Tanner played the recurring role of Jesse Reed in the drama series Somewhere Between before he was cast as Fangs Fogarty on the CW drama series Riverdale, a TV adaptation of the Archie Comics universe. Tanner's journey to Riverdale started back in 2015, when he initially read for the part of Jughead and then later for Reggie, before being cast as Fangs, the openly bisexual member of the Southside Serpents.[3] After recurring on the show since the second season, he was promoted to a series regular for the fifth season.[8]
In 2019, Tanner was cast as Charlie in the Netflix film Work It, which was released in 2020.[9]
In 2020, it was announced that Tanner and his Riverdale co-star Vanessa Morgan had formed a music duo, These Girls These Boys, and released their debut single.[10]
