Dror Paley (born March 25, 1956) is a Canadian-trained orthopedic surgeon, specializing in limb lengthening and deformity correction procedures.[2]
Career
Paley has been licensed in Ontario, Canada since 1980,[3] Maryland since 1986,[4] and Florida since 2009.[5]
Trained in surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital and in orthopedic surgery at the University of Toronto Medical School, Paley worked at the University of Maryland as a professor of Orthopedics and chief of Pediatric Orthopedics.[6]
In 1991, Paley co-founded the Maryland Center for Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction at James Lawrence Kernan Hospital with Dr. John Herzenberg. Paley was among the first to use the PRECICE intramedullary nail for cosmetic leg lengthening.[7]
In 2013, Smith & Nephew released a new Modular Rail System for external fixation and limb deformity correction in collaboration with Paley.[8]
Paley had developed around 100 surgical procedures for limb reconstruction as of 2014.[9]
Limb lengthening training
Paley specializes in limb-lengthening and corrective surgeries, trained by Gavriil Ilizarov, inventor of the "Ilizarov method" of limb reconstruction, technically known as Distraction osteogenesis. Paley is credited with bringing the Ilizarov method to the West.[10][11]
Personal life
Paley lives in West Palm Beach with his wife Jennifer and stepson. He has three adult children. He is fluent in six languages and practices cycling, skiing, and rock climbing.[9][12]
