Duane Arnold
Early life and education[edit]
Arnold was born on 5 August 1953 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, United States.[1] He was brought up near Cleveland, Ohio. He has studied at the University of the State of New York (BA 1979), Concordia Theological Seminary (MA 1981), and St Chad's College, Durham (PhD 1989).[1] His doctoral thesis was titled "The early episcopal career of Athanasius of Alexandria, Ad 328-AD 335".[2] He has also been awarded a Lambeth Diploma in theology (1984).[1]
Career[edit]
Having been ordained into the Congregational church, Arnold was a minister at First Church, Detroit, Michigan from 1985 to 1987.[1] In 1987, he was received into the Episcopal Church and ordained to the priesthood. He was the precentor of St Paul's Cathedral, Detroit and a chaplain at Wayne State University.[1] From 1991 to 1994, he was an assistant priest at St. Thomas Church, Manhattan in New York City.[3] He was an adjunct lecturer in religious studies at the University of Detroit from 1985 to 1988, and in Church history at Ashland Theological Seminary, Ohio from 1987 to 1991.[3]
