Duffryn Lane (Welsh: Dyffryn Lane) is a country lane in Wales between the villages of St. Nicholas and Dyffryn.
Road course
The northern section of road begins at the junction with the A48 road in the village of St. Nicholas, Vale of Glamorgan[1]. It heads in a southerly direction past numerous hamlets and sites of historic interest such as Dyffryn Gardens and Tinkinswood Burial Chamber[2], a Neolithic chamber older than Stonehenge[3].
The 2011 Rural-Urban Classification maps the lane as being comprised of rural hamlets and isolated dwellings[4]. The lane has many historic stone walls and is protected by the St. Nicholas and Bonvilston Conservation Area.
Myths and legends
The 'headless ghost' of Thomas Button (locally known as Buttons), a former Welsh officer of the Royal Navy is said to touch you on the shoulder whilst riding on his horse at dusk.[5] A section of the lane is included in the 'Haunted Field Walk' (part of the Vale Trails Guide).[6][7]
