Duke the Dog
Duke the Dog, a 7-year-old Great Pyrenees, won the mayoral election of the small Northwestern Minnesota township of Cormorant. The post of mayor in this small town is a simple honor. As for the mayor's salary, a pet food store is donating a year’s supply of kibble to reward him for his service. Duke the Dog won the election with 75% of the vote against the second candidate, Richard Sherbrook, who is the owner of a local store.
Cormorant mayoral elections take place annually, and everyone must pay a registration fee of $1 to cast a vote. Usually, it funds spending for charities.
After winning the election, the newly elected Mayor went through the inauguration process. Preparatory to the inauguration process included a visit to the "beauty salon" to comb his wool. In addition, a suit, including a jacket, tie, and top hat, was bought for his inauguration; also, a local pet food store is donating him a year’s supply of kibble to reward him for his service.
