Duncan McClure Fisher is a British businessman, best known for founding MotorEasy and Warranty Direct.
Warranty Direct,[1][2] was the UK's first independent extended warranty service,[3] and founded with his late father David McClure Fisher.[4] This was made possible due to changes in the sale of goods act 1979, meaning products must be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose.[5]
Duncan is considered an authority on the UK warranty industry, and is often quoted when discussing car reliability.[6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15]
Warranty Direct[edit]
After 13 years working as an underwriter at Lloyd's of London,[16][17] Duncan left to found extended warranty provider, Warranty Direct in 1997.
During his time at Warranty Direct Duncan launched motoring campaign sites:
- Potholes.co.uk[18][19] - allowing motorists to report road faults to their local council and get pothole-related legal advice.[20]
- LabourRates.co.uk - providing a guide to independent and franchised garage labour rates across the UK.[21]
- The Reliability Index - providing data-backed car reliability[22][23][24][25][26] and running costs information to UK motorists.[27][28]
In April 2008 global banking group BNP Paribas purchased a majority share in the company, and purchased the remaining shares in July 2013.
In February 2014 McClure Fisher announced his departure from Warranty Direct to pursue other ventures.[29]
