Dye & Durham Corporation is a legal technology company and a provider of legal software and data solutions in Canada and the United Kingdom. The company offers its services and solutions through a cloud-based gateway called e-market.

Founded in 1874, the company was established as a legal stationery company and currently operates as a legal technology firm.

History[edit]

1874-1911: Founding and incorporation[edit]

Dye & Durham originated in 1874 as The Dominion Blank Form Company. In 1911, Shirley Dye and Sydney Durham became the owners and changed the company's name to Dye & Durham. Over the years, the firm progressed from a legal form business, to a legal office products company, to its current form as a legal technology provider.

1911-Present: Growth and Acquisitions[edit]

In the 1970s and 1980s, office locations were opened in Toronto, Ottawa, London, Ontario, and Winnipeg, Manitoba. These locations housed offices, warehouses, and corporate search services.

In the 1990s and early 2000s, Dye & Durham underwent ownership changes. Acquisitions during this period include:

  • • 1993 - Newsome and Gilbert Inc. (printing and stationery provider to Canadian law offices since 1880)
  • • 1998 - CCNS Information Services (Ontario search and corporate supplies, and Western Canada legal search and registration services)
  • • 1999 - Agentis Information Services Inc. (supplier of conveyancing, process serving, court, and search and registration services in British Columbia)
  • • 2011 – Northern Registry Services (Prince George, British Columbia registry services provider)
  • • 2011 – Pacific Coast Total Solutions (Greater Vancouver Regional District registry services provider)[1]

On January 1, 2006, Dye & Durham officially changed its name to Dye & Durham, A Division of The Cartwright Group Ltd., belonging to an umbrella of companies which include, Emond Montgomery Publications Limited, Canadian Lawyer, Law Times, CLB Media and Canada Law Book.[2]

In 2008, Dye & Durham announced the sale of its Ontario Search & Registration and Corporate Supplies business units to Teranet Enterprises which was later called ESC Corporate Services.

Later in 2008, Dye & Durham's British Columbia and Alberta operations were 100% acquired by Connie Fenyo from its former parent company, The Cartwright Group. As part of a national strategy Dye & Durham discontinued its office product offerings, and established itself as a Canada wide registry and legal support services provider.[3]

The company was acquired by OneMove Technologies in the spring of 2016. In March 2017 Dye & Durham acquired OnCorp Direct Inc.[4] On October 5 2017, ISC sold Dye & Durham minority a stake for $25M.[5] On Oct 17 2017 Dye & Durham completed a 100% purchase of Easy Convey.[6]
