E.ON Next is a British energy company part of the E.ON Group. Founded by Michael Lewis in 2020, it is headquartered in Leicester and is the new commodity brand of E.ON’s, supplying energy to homes and businesses in UK.

Overview[edit]

After the acquisition of Npower in 2019, E.ON announced its bid to re-invent the business by launching E.ON Next, powered by Octopus' Kraken Technologies.[1]

In May 2021, the company announced it migrated 2 million former Npower customers onto E,ON Next’s new platform, including subsidiary companies npower Select, Wigan Warriors Energy and Wasps Energy as well as Powershop and will also migrate E.ON customers as revealed by CEO Mike Lewis in an interview to BBC.[2]

E.ON Next was appointed to take on Hub Energy’s 15,000 customers by Ofgem in August 2021.[3]

Renewable electricity[edit]

E.ON Next supplies electricity sourced from E.ON’s renewable generation assets, supply agreements with independent UK wind generators and the purchase of renewable electricity certificates.[4] The electricity supplied to homes and businesses comes from the National Grid and DNOs.

Sustainability[edit]

Two new tariffs were introduced earlier in the year to ramp up its sustainable energy offering.[5] One of which was launched via a partnership with ev energy to offer smart charging for electric vehicles.[6]

In 2021, the company published statistics revealing how Britons feel eco-shamed.[7] The research was commissioned by E.ON Next which launched a Positive Speaker Series to encourage people to feel more positive when it comes to sustainability.[7]

Marketing[edit]

Senior vice-president and Head of global brand and marketing at E.ON, Axel Lober revealed the strategy behind the company’s new face, produced by Berlin-based agency R/GA as “positive emotionality".[8]

E.ON’s advertising agency Engine launched a TVC in 2021, produced by Not to Scale.[9][10]
