E.P. Carrillo Cigars

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

E.P. Carrillo is a brand of cigars, founded by Ernesto Perez-Carrillo and his two children, Lissette Perez-Carrillo and Ernesto Perez-Carrillo III, in 2009. The company is currently based in Miami, FL.[1]

History[edit]

After leaving Cuba in 1959, the Perez-Carrillo family started to rebuild their lives in Miami, FL. This is where Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Sr. would establish a small cigar factory called El Credito in Little Havana, Miami, FL in 1968. After much success at El Credito, Ernesto Sr. became ill and decided to sell the factory. Upon hearing this news, Ernesto Jr. asked his father to reconsider, which he agreed to under the condition that his son would join the company and work alongside him to learn about everything that a cigar blender has to know during his remaining years. Ernesto Jr. agreed, going against his career as a jazz drummer to pursue a career in the cigar industry and continue the legacy of the Perez-Carrillo family.[1]

During his time at El Credito, Ernesto Jr. developed the widely popular cigar, La Gloria Cubana.[1] After much success with this brand, Ernesto Jr. decided to sell El Credito (the factory) as well as the rights to the cigar to Swedish Match in 1999. After the sale, Ernesto Jr. worked for the Swedes for the next 10 years.[2]

In 2009, Ernesto founded EPC Cigar Co. with assistance from his two children, Lissette Perez-Carrillo and Ernesto Perez-Carrillo III. The company has released new blends each year since its start. Lissette Perez-Carrillo is responsible for the legal, marketing, sales and finance areas of the company, and Ernesto III currently serves as an advisor.[1]

Production[edit]

The Perez-Carrillo family founded Tabacalera La Alianza in the Zona Franca of Santiago, Dominican Republic.[1] This is where the cigars of E.P. Carrillo’s portfolio are created.[3]

Today, Ernesto spends time traveling, taking care of buying tobacco. E.P. Carrillo’s cigars utilize tobaccos of various origins and regions.[1]

Cigars[edit]

E.P. Carrillo’s cigar portfolio contains over 20 blends.[3]
