The EFR World Leader Cycle award (WLC) is a cycle award that is awarded to people 'World Leaders' who have had an extraordinary impact on the world, this could for example be as a politician but also as an economist. Previous winners of this award include Ban Ki-moon, John Nash Jr., and Michail Gorbachev. It is awarded every few years by the Economic Faculty association Rotterdam (EFR), a recognised school association of the Erasmus School of Economics. When nominated, the World Leader gets invited to the campus of the Erasmus University Rotterdam, to give a guest lecture after which the Award is handed over to the recipient by the president of the board of EFR.
History
The first WLC was awarded to Michail Gorbachev in 1996 for 'his efforts to reform policies within the party and his actions which helped end the Cold War.'[1] The award was created to inspire students of the Erasmus University Rotterdam, by showing what great impact is made by World Leaders.
About EFR
The Economic Faculty association Rotterdam (EFR) has over 6000 members and is one of the biggest and most active faculty associations in Europe [2]. It belongs to the Erasmus School of Economics, a faculty of the Erasmus University Rotterdam. The main objectives for EFR are to fill the gap between theory and practice. They do this by organising a large number of activities. One of their most popular activities is EFR Inspiration Days, one of the most prestigious and professional student conferences in Western Europe, having previously received speakers such as Princess Mabel van Oranje and Philips CEO Frans van Houten[3].
