EIT Health is a consortium of  over 140 partners from businesses, research centres and universities from 15 EU countries.

EIT Health is a Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) established by the European Institute for Innovation & Technology (EIT) on since 09 December 2014..[1]. EIT is an independent EU body set up in 2008 to promote innovation and entrepreneurship across Europe. EIT Health is the result of the initial InnoLife consortium. [2]

Concept[edit]

The goal of EIT Health is to contribute to increasing the competitiveness of European industry, improve the quality of life of Europe’s citizens and the sustainability of healthcare systems. The focus are in training the workforce of tomorrow, and overcoming fragmentation of the healthcare sector in Europe.

EIT Health connects all relevant healthcare players across European borders – making sure to include all sides of the “knowledge triangle”, so that innovation can happen at the intersection of research, education and business for the benefit of citizens.

EIT Health was launched with a €2.1 billion on funding.[3]

Structure[edit]

EIT Health runs as a consortium of 140+[4] [5] individual partners, comprising private and public institutions across Europe, major representing industry, academia and healthcare providers.

Jan-Philipp Beck is the current CEO of the Management Board. Alexander von Gabain is the current Chairman of the Supervisory Board.

EIT Health Headquarter is based in Munich, Germany, and operates under 7 co-location centers (CLCs)[6], formed by local entity partners, and ran by independent management boards.

EIT Health is organized its initiative under Campus, Accelerator and Innovation Pillars.

EIT Health also has a community of more than 1300 Alumni, represented by EIT Health Alumni, which current President is Miguel Amador.

Initiatives and Results[edit]

Between 2016 and 2018 the results comprise €90 million in investment attracted by start-ups, 400 start-ups supported, 21 000 professionals and graduates trained and 35 solutions brought to market.[7]

EIT Health offer 3 main startup competitions[8]: - Innostars Award[9] - European Health Catapult - Headstart Funding[10]

Among other programs, EIT Health promotes "Startup Meets Pharma", "Validation Lab"[11], "Wildcard" [12] [13].

In 13 September 2019, EIT Health signed a partnership with EIF to attract funding to health and life-science in Europe.[14] The Investors Network also supports the access to funding in healthcare [15] [16].

EIT Health organizes also several Innovation Days with local partners, each year [17] [18]

Several individual innovation projects are also supported each year, as collaborative projects among the different partners[19]

Beyond supporting startups and innovation, EIT Health has a strong activity on Education, and runs a Think Tank .
