EPIC: The Musical (often referred to as EPIC) is a concept musical with book, music, and lyrics by Jorge Rivera-Herrans.[1] The musical is loosely based on The Odyssey with an interpretation inspired by animation and video games.[2]

The concept album is being released as 9 EP's, dubbed "sagas" by Rivera-Herrans. The first part, EPIC: The Troy Saga (Original Concept Album) was released on Christmas of 2022, and the follow up saga EPIC: The Cyclops Saga (Original Concept Album) was released on January 27th of the following year.[3]

EPIC has collected a large online following on social media, with Rivera-Herrans documenting the writing process on TikTok and Discord.[3]

Synopsis[edit]

Odysseus leads the Greek warriors in the Sack of Troy. Zeus tells Odysseus he must kill an infant who will grow up to be a threat ("The Horse and the Infant"). Odysseus reflects on what he cares about and the innocent life of the infant ("Just a Man"). Odysseus and his men set sail for their home, Ithaca ("Full Speed Ahead").

Arriving on a strange island, Polites and Odysseus debate contrasting worldviews of compassion and caution and Polites urges Odysseus to view the world with a gentler mindset ("Open Arms"). Athena argues with Odysseus about his conflicted feelings of guilt, asserting that he is meant to be a legendary warrior ("Warrior of the Mind").

Odysseus and his men anger a cyclops by killing some of his sheep for food ("Polyphemus"). They fight for their lives, trying to get to the beach to warn the others as the cyclops begins killing them ("Survive"). Odysseus manages to defeat the cyclops by tricking it, but decides not to kill it and instructs his friends to remember their fallen comrades ("Remember Them"). Athena and Odysseus argue about each others' priorities and decide to part ways ("My Goodbye").
