eSCL
eSCL is a driverless scanning protocol created by Mopria. eSCL is a RESTful interface to scanners, with the goal to ease the client side usage of scanners, merely specifying an Intent (which action it wants to take), instead of knowing all the potentially complex scanner settings, which, with eSCL, then are set by the scanner device itself, matching the Intent of the client.
Description
eSCL includes, among other
- scanner discovery
- scanner information, like DPI capabilities
- Intent types to use, like document, photo, or preview scan
- scan progress information
- scan jobs status
Besides default scanning approaches, features like 'scan back to mobile', or attaching Cloud Services are specified.[1]
