ESL One Cologne 2019 is a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament run by ESL. In July 2019, sixteen teams from around the globe will compete in an offline (LAN) tournament that will feature a group stage and playoffs with a US$300,000 prize pool. It will be the third consecutive year since Cologne 2016 in which Valve decided to pass up on the historic tournament series as a Major host in favour of the StarLadder Major: Berlin 2019.
This tournament is the fifth tournament of the second season of the Intel Grand Slam[1], which a list of international premier tournaments run by ESL and DreamHack. Each team gets ten tournaments that it participates in to have a chance at winning four of them. The first team to win four titles earns an extra $1,000,000. Team Liquid (Intel Extreme Masters Season XIV - Sydney, DreamHack Masters Dallas 2019, and ESL Pro League Season 9 finals) leads the way with three wins. Astralis (Intel Extreme Masters XIII - Katowice Major 2019) is second with one win. ESL Pro League Season 9 - Finals (Montpellier) precedes the Cologne 2019 event.
Format[edit]
ESL invited eleven teams to compete in the tournament. Two teams from Europe, one team from North America, one team from Asia, and the winner of the GG.BET Majestic tournament competed for the last five spots.
- Group Stage: July 2–4, 2019
- Two double-elimination format (GSL) Groups:
- Each group has eight teams
- The group stage is seeded based on the ESL CS:GO World Rankings[2]
- The initial matches are Bo1
- All following matches are Bo3
- The top three teams from each group advance to the Playoffs:
- Group stage winners advance to the Semifinals
- Group stage runners-up advance to the Quarterfinals as the High Seeds
- Group stage 3rd place teams advance to the Quarterfinals as the Low Seeds
- Two double-elimination format (GSL) Groups:
- Playoffs: July 5–7, 2019
- Single-elimination bracket
- The Quarterfinals and Semifinals are Bo3
- The Grand Final is Bo5
