Although its southernmost point is just north of the Tombstone Territorial Park, the region covers areas north of the Arctic Circle. It has a population of 8 people, who all live and work at a stopover along the Dempster Highway.

History
The region shows evidence of settlement from as far back as 2500 BCE by Paleo-Eskimo cultures.

In 2018, the stopover gained notoriety due to the 8 staff being heavily overworked when a blizzard closed the Dempster Highway right as the Yukon Native Hockey Tournament participants were headed back to their home towns in the Northwest Territories and the yearly Fulda Challenge run by the German division of Goodyear Tires was set to begin.[2]
Geography
The region is generally high in elevation and sits on top of permafrost, so the only plantlife found in the plains are mosses, lichens, and small shrubs due to the Tree line. The region is found between the Ogilvie and Richardson mountain ranges, where snowmelt creates many creeks and rivers throughout the region.

Being only 21km south of the Arctic Circle, the stopover experiences ≈ 10 minutes of civil twilight during the Summer Solstice. [3]
Tourism and Culture
Eagle Plains has a stopover with a hotel 21km south of the Arctic Circle, which is the only place in between Tombstone Territorial Park and Fort McPherson, Northwest Territories that offers any services like hospitality and gas. Its location makes it a popular spot for travelers headed for Inuvik or Tuktoyaktuk.
The stopover also has indigenous centres on site for nearby indigenous tribes.
