Eaquals

Eaquals (short for Evaluation and Accreditation of Quality Language Services) is the professional association for language education throughout the world. Its mission is to foster excellence in language education by providing practical guidance and support to teaching institutions and individual professionals. [1]

Eaquals is a not-for-profit association that works for the public good – independent of any commercial interests or group. It is registered as a non-profit association in England and Wales as well as a UK charity. [2]

Eaquals advises the Council of Europe on language policy issues and is a member of the professional Network Forum at the European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML). It worked with the Council of Europe to improve language provision for adult migrants across its 47 members states.

It works with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE), the Japan Association for Management of Training and Education (JAMOTE) and the European Confederation of Language Centres in Higher Education (CercleS). It has now more than 140 accredited members (language centres of all types of teaching courses in any language) from about 40 countries worldwide.[3] Associate members are national and international organisations with considerable involvement and professional achievement in the field of international education and language learning. Eaquals associate members are British Council, Cambridge Assessment English, ETS, TrackTest, Goethe-Institut, Instituto Cervantes and others.

Eaquals was officially founded on 2nd December 1991 in Trieste (Italy). The name ‘Eaquals’ originally stood for the European Association for Quality Language Services, reflecting the Association’s strong links with Europe and European languages. The name was later changed to Evaluation and Accreditation of Quality Language Services to reflect Eaquals’ development worldwide. [4]
