Earthworks Audio is an American pro audio company. It was founded by David E. Blackmer in Milford, NH, in 1995 as a manufacturer of microphones and preamplifiers.
Company history
Earthworks Audio was founded in 1995 by David E. Blackmer.[1], an American audio engineer most famous as the inventor of the DBX noise reduction system and founder of dbx.
While Earthworks Audio started as a manufacturer of loudspeakers – culminating in the Earthworks Sigma 6.2[2] – the company shifted its focus to producing microphones in the early 2000s.
Products
The first microphone by Earthworks Audio was the OM1, an omnidirectional microphone built to test loudspeakers[3]. Following the company's transition from loudspeakers to microphones, Earthworks developed a line of measurement microphones for applications ranging from recording studios to live sound stages.[4][5]
Earthworks Audio currently manufactures mics for various applications including measurement, drums,[6] vocals,[7] streaming[8], podcasting, instruments, piano[9], and choir. Their most recent microphone is ETHOS, a streaming/broadcasting microphone released in late 2021.[10] All Earthworks mics are designed, tuned, and assembled in their factory based in Milford, NH.
