East of the Cornmill
East of the Cornmill is a pop-rock band formed in Alpine, Utah, in 2019. The band consists of lead vocalist Matthew Jackson, lead guitarist Grayson Hardman, bassist Joshua Rueckert, rhythm guitarist Chris Dahlgren, drummer James Taylor, and keyboardist/backup vocalist Devin Christensen. The band has made a name for itself in Utah County, both being featured in local events and shown on broadcasting station KSL. The band has an upcoming album titled "Slavic Autumn", which draws inspiration from classic and alternative rock.
Band History
The band was originally conceived among a group of friends as a joke; however, through the nagging of Chris, Grayson joined and motivated a group of friends, including James and Devin, to try out for the Knightshow. After being accepted, Devin acted as lead vocalist briefly during the Knightshow and the subsequent Knightstock. After performing briefly with McKay Taylor as backup vocals, the band lay dormant for the remainder of the year, before reemerging in December with new band members Matt and Josh, to act as a new lead vocalist and bassist.
Band Name
Confusion among the name East of the Cornmill has been prevalent since the band's inception. After wasting an afternoon searching for a name, the original group decided on using East of the Cornmill, a suggestion that Chris had supplied previously. Other suggested names were White Gold and Slavic Autumn, with the latter being repurposed as the band's first album release.
Discography
The band's first album, Slavic Autumn, was a long-anticipated debut for the band. Released on all platforms on October 10, the album consists of 7 original songs and 3 covers of "Island in the Sun", "I'm a Believer", and "Here Comes the Sun". The original songs are "Just Tell Me What to Say", "Checkout Queen", "Lady of the Lake", "Disco Mambo", "Whirlwind", "Corsages", and the titular track "Slavic Autumn".
