"Easy From Now On" is a song written by Carlene Carter and Susanna Clark, and recorded by American country music artist Emmylou Harris. It was released in 1978 as the second single from the album Quarter Moon in a Ten Cent Town. The album takes its title from a line in the song, and a painting by co-writer Susanna Clark of a crescent moon over a dark road serves as the album’s cover. The song reached number 12 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart.[1] and number 5 on the RPM Canadian chart.[2]
Legacy
Country Artist Miranda Lambert covered the song on her second studio album Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Lambert has stated that the line "When the mornin’ comes and it’s time for me to leave/Don’t worry about me, I got a wild card up my sleeve" has resonated with her, and served as inspiration for the title of her 2019 studio album, Wildcard.[3] Lambert's second single from the album, Bluebird also features the lyric "I've got a wildcard up my sleeve." [4]
Additional Cover versions
- Co-writer Carlene Carter recorded the song for her 1990 album I Fell in Love.
- Country Artist Suzy Bogguss recorded the song in 1981 for her first album "Suzy" on independent record label Old Shack Recording.
- Country Artist Terri Clark included the song on her 2000 album Fearless
