Easy Wanderlings is an independent Indian (Pune-based) soul-pop band formed in 2015 by Sanyanth Naroth (composer, acoustic guitarist) and Malay Vadalkar (sound designer, bassist).[1] The band’s music is a mix of ambient soul, pop, and folk. They released their first album ‘As Written in the Stars’ on August 6th 2017 and are currently working on releasing new singles and on touring the US. [2][3]
History
Formation and first years
Sanyanth Naroth and Malay Vadalkar first met in 2007 while pursuing their bachelor’s degree from Flame University. They formed Easy Wanderlings in 2015 when Sanyanth, then a social entrepreneur, was already writing and composing Enjoy it while it lasts. Pratika Gopinath joined the band as a vocalist, and in 2016 the band welcomed members Sharad Rao (vocalist and guitarist) and Abraham Zachariah (drummer). The band went on to release three more songs on SoundCloud, Summer is away (2015), Faces (2016), and I for little things (2016).[4]
Mainstream (2016 - current)
The band continued to perform in Pune and Mumbai and received their big break when Anuj Mehta invited them to perform at the NH7 Weekender at Pune in December 2016. The band brought on board vocalist and guitarist Sharad Rao and drummer Abraham Zachariah who remain active members of the band.[5] The band took a short break from performing live and focused on their debut album As written in the stars (2017) which cemented their popularity in the Indie scene with Sofar Sounds. Music Style
Easy Wanderlings’ music style is known for the delicate and soothing melodies. The band draws inspiration from ambient soul, pop, and folk influences that include José González, Fleet Foxes, Etta James, Kings of Convenience, Bob Dylan, John Mayer, The Eagles, and several others.[7]
Albums
Easy Wanderlings released their debut album As Written in the Stars in August 2017. The album is a curation of meaningful stories and memories translated into music and it went on to become the 4th best-selling Indian independent music albums of 2017.[8]
