Ecocup
Intro
Ecocup is a French company that manufactures, customizes, sells, rents and cleans reusable cups for festivals, sporting events, concerts and cultural events such as the Winter Brewfest.[1] in Toronto, but also for individuals.
Ecocup was founded in 2008 by Emmanuel Torrent, Brice Buscato and Flavien Casellas with the aim of eliminating the use of disposable plastic cups at events in order to reduce plastic pollution[2].
In 2019, Ecocup announced that it manufactured and cleaned over 150 million reusable cups.
History
In 2006, Emmanuel Torrent, Brice Buscato and Flavien Casellas created the Ecocup sustainable development association (law of 1901) with the aim of eliminating the use of disposable plastic cups during events (fairs, festivals, cultural and sporting events) that cause pollution and damage to land and sites. Ecological plastic cups have been manufactured in Barcelona since 1989 and are now used around the world, for example in Brazil at the Pipoca Festival[3]. The Ecocup founders organized a deposit system for reusable and customizable cups made of polypropylene and polycarbonate.
In 2008, Ecocup became a LLC.
In 2011, the company exported its concept to Switzerland, Belgium and Spain.
In 2013, Ecocup Quebec was created.
In 2014, Ecocup UK was created. It has clients such as the London Irish Rugby Club[4] and the Twickenham Stadium[5]
In 2018, the Proplast group (European leader in plastic injection) based in Northern France took a capital stake in Ecocup, providing a platform for international growth.
In 2019, Ecocup and Green Gobelet joined forces in order to become a large supplier of reusable cups in the UK[6].
