Eddie Fitzpatrick is an Irish Fianna Fáil Councillor. A local Councillor for the Edenderry municipal district, on Offaly County Council, he was first elected in 2004 for the Progressive Democrats.
Electoral history
Fitzpatrick was first elected to Offaly County Council in 2004 as the Progressive Democrats candidate for the Edenderry district, being elected on the 8th count.
After the dissolution of the Progressive Democrats in 2009, Fitzpatrick ran as an Independent and was elected on the 8th count. He later ran for Dáil Éireann in the Laois–Offaly constituency as an Independent candidate, he received 3 percent of the vote and 2,544 first preferences, being eliminated on the 6th count.
Fitzpatrick joined Fianna Fáil in August 2011 and was re-elected to Offaly County Council in 2014, being elected on the first count in the Edenderry district.
He contested the 2016 general election as the Fianna Fáil candidate, running alongside sitting TD Barry Cowen in the new Offaly constituency, he received 7 percent of the vote and 3,394 first preference votes and lost by 170 votes on the 7th count to fellow Offaly County Councillor Carol Nolan, the then Sinn Féin candidate.[1]
He later contested the Fianna Fáil nomination for the 2019 European Parliament election in the South constituency, but was not selected.[2]
He ran for re-election to Offaly County Council in 2019 and was elected on the first count to the Edenderry district and received the highest percentage of first preference votes in the county, receiving 20 percent of the vote.
