Edion Corporation (株式会社エディオン, Kabushiki gaisha Edion, stylized in logo as EDION, short for Exciting Discovery in One Network) is one of the largest consumer electronics retailer chains in Japan (the third largest after Yamada Denki and Bic Camera, which includes Kojima).

Overview[edit]

Edion is mainly an electronics retailer. As of 2020, there are a total of 1,184 Edion and Hyakuman Volt (100満ボルト, Hyakuman Boruto) stores in Japan; 433 of which are owned-and-operated. The rest are franchises. Aside of stores, Edion also operates an online store.

Edion also operates a home renovation business which the company claimed being the largest home renovation business in Japan by sales.

History[edit]

The company was established in 2002 as a holding company for western Japan electronics retailer chains Deodeo and Eiden. It further acquired Midori Denka in 2005 and 3Q (trading as Hyakuman Volt) in 2007 (became a wholly-owned subsidiary in 2011).

The company established Tokyo Edion in 2007. All the shares of Ishimaru Denki, which became an Edion subsidiary in 2006, was acquired by Tokyo Edion in 2008. In 2009, the group was reorganized; Deodeo and Midori Denka was merged into Edion West, and Tokyo Edion, Ishimaru Denki and Eiden was merged into Edion East (a renamed Eiden), while retaining their respective brands. Merely one year later, Edion East and Edion West were dissolved and merged into the parent company. Eiden, Deodeo, Midori Denka, and Ishimaru Denki stores were further rebranded into Edion in 2012. The 3Q stores still retain their Hyakuman Volt branding until today.

In August 2013, Lixil Group acquired a stake in Edion and became its largest single shareholder.
