Edith "Edie" Mack Hirsch (née McSkimming) was a co-founder of Oak Tree Racing Association and well-known for owning and racing thoroughbred racehorses.[1] She was also known for being the second wife of Desi Arnaz, Sr.
As a young woman she was a cigarette girl at the Santa Anita racetrack. She met Arnaz before they were both married. Years later, while they were both married to their first spouses, they were neighbors in Del Mar, California.[2]
Edith's first husband was Clement L. Hirsch, a multimillionaire and manufacturer of Kal Kan Dog food. Clement owned thoroughbred racing stables, a passion which the couple had in common. They had a son together in 1957 and divorced in 1962.[2]
Edith's second husband was Desi Arnaz, Sr., Cuban Orchestra leader and co-star of I Love Lucy. They married on March 2, 1963, which also happened to be Arnaz's 46th birthday. Their wedding was held at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas and they honeymooned at the Indian Wells Country Club in Palm Desert, California, which Arnaz owned.[2] Edith Arnaz became step-mother to Arnaz's two children, Desi Arnaz Jr. and Lucie Arnaz, he had with his first wife, actress and comedienne Lucille Ball. Edith and Arnaz did not have children together. Arnaz owned a horse ranch in Corona, California and two shared a passion for horses and horse racing.
