Editorial Denes
Editorial Denes
Denes is a Spanish publishing company founded in 1987 which specializes in books in Valencian (essays, dictionaries, poetry, children’s literature) and Spanish.[1] It started with the publication of the works and dictionaries of Valencian lexicographer Francesc Ferrer Pastor,[1] who began his career in 1956. Several literary collections gradually consolidated through the years have established the company within the market and among readers. It also continues expanding its catalogue with the incorporation of new pedagogical books aimed at teaching Valencian. Its principal goal is to satisfy the inquiries of any type of reader.
Collections
Notable components of its diverse array of collections are the collection Francesc Ferrer Pastor, which focuses on research; Estudis, dedicated to the recovery and understanding of cultural and scientific aspects of Valencia; and the recently incorporated Bàsica, which fosters essays in a wider sense and promotes the diffusion of literary and sociocultural topics from a Valencian lens.
Poetry publications are compiled under Edicions de la Guerra, with around fifty authors of world poetry, both classic and current. Teatre, on the other hand, gathers the most notorious Catalan authors.
In Spanish, the most important collection is Calabria, which is divided in several series: Calabria journalism, Calabria biography, Calabria theater, Calabria essay and Calabria poetry. For children and young adult literature, Denes holds collections such as Contes de Tots, Les Nostres Tradicions, Contaralles de la Meua Terra, Les aventures de l’eriçó Costumeta, Poble a poble and Biografies, which comprise around sixty titles.
Col·lecció Rent, a collection of religious and contemporary literature led by Agustí Colomer Ferràndiz,[2] offers a wide range of narrative, poetry, essay, theater, homiletics and other subjects about Valencian Christian-inspired literature from the XIX century to today.[3] According to its director, the texts in the collection gather the aesthetic, cultural, and spiritual values of writers that show the beauty and depth of a profound and transcendent humanism through their creations.[4] The collection includes both writers of word literature and Valencian authors. The name of the collection, of evangelical resonance, is a homage to the Valencians who created La Paraula Cristiana association, whose newsletter was titled Rent.[5]
