Edris Matu Segawa
Edris Matu Segawa (Born 3rd Jan 1988) also known as Idris Segawa or Edrisa Segawa; ' is a Ugandan film and TV writer, producer and vocalist who is best known for developing and writing television drama series Deception (Ugandan TV Series), writing scripts for The Hostel , a TV Drama Kakibeki and other TV shows which include T-Nation , KICKSTART all NTV Uganda TV shows. In addition to his film work, he is a vocalist with Afro-pop band Zawuka, [1] [2]
Early life[edit]
He was born and raised in Luweero district where he went through school participating in music, dance and drama competitions, which cemented his interest for the performing arts. He attended Gombe Senior Secondary School [3] for his ordinary and advanced level certificates. He then later enrolled at Makerere University during which he was involved in an exchange program with Stanford University for the project ‘Beyond My Circle’ [4]
Film and TV Career[edit]
While he was studying film and performing arts at Makerere University, he was hired as an intern screenwriter on the 2009 NTV Uganda drama series project ‘Kakibeki’ and this was regarded his significant start to TV production. In 2012, Fast Track Productions Ltd hired him as one of the script writers of The Hostel drama series and George Kihumba as the director. NTV Uganda then, was looking to produce another in-house "drama" TV series and he developed Deception, a monster mother in law drama series where he was producer and head writer for the show from 2013. In 2014, he was one of the producers of the reality competition show KICKSTART for Nile Breweries which later aired on NTV Uganda for two seasons from 2014-15.[5] He later signed on as a permanent producer with NTV Uganda where he still works as a producer and writer on several TV shows, documentaries and live broadcasts like the youth magazine show T Nation.[6]since 2015, Planet K, Mothers of Karamoja and so many more. In 2017, he was a host and producer of a shopping show for JUMIA an online store to increase the awareness of shopping online in Uganda. The show dubbed Shopping with Jumia featured the sale of several goods that were on offer live on NTV Uganda with his co-host Carolyn Flower. Later the same year, he was among the hosts of the daily Morning@NTV Live Show until March 2018.[7] The show aired from 6-9am where on his segment ‘Everyday Life’ he interviewed guests on business, health, social issues and so may other issues.

Music Career[edit]
In 2008, he was a contestant on the Idols (East African TV series) and was among the 12 Ugandans flown to Nairobi to participate in the competition from where he later joined the Afro-pop music band Zawuka in 2012 and made an appearance at the Bayimba International Festival that same year. The band initially performed covers at hotels and events until they decided to record original music with singles like Sunshine, Zawuka, Imaro and Ntuhinduka. Zawuka released their first single "Sunshine" in 2015.[8] The band lead singers include Irene, Kia and Edris all serving as a vocalists.[9] He also does voice-over narrations for radio and television advertisements, commercials and all sorts of documentaries, he is also a lover of art, and occasionally paints as a hobby.
