Eduardo Castaldo (Naples IT, 1977) is an italian Photographer, Screenwriter and Street Artist under the pseudonymous of "edie".

Biography[edit]

He began his career as photojournalist in 2007; from 2008 to 2013 he was based in Middle East, documenting the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the arab springs for Leading magazines and newspapers worldwide (Time, Newsweek, LeMonde, Internazionale, DerSpiegel, L'Espresso among others); for his coverage of the Egyptian Revolution in 2011[1] he received some of the most importants photographic prizes worldwide, including the World Press Photo 2012,[2] and several other prizes such as Pictures of the Year International and Kuala Lumpur International Photography Awards among others.

In 2014, at the edge of his career , Eduardo decided to abandon completely photojournalism, due to the many unsolved ethical questions bounded to this profession. In this period he began his commitment into cinema industry, working as Still photographer on set; his first experience was in 2012 with the award winning director Matteo Garrone on his movie Reality (ITA-FRA, 2012); in 2016 he realized, under the pseudonymous of "edie" his first Street Artwork, combining StreetArt techniques with re-elaborations from his photojournalistic archive in Middle east. Through the years he realized in Napoli several artworks, with topics mostly related to Social and Political issues about Middle East; with one of these artworks he was awarded in 2018 with the prestigious SONY World Phtography Award.[3]

In 2021, during the Israeli military operation in Gaza, some of his artworks became virals and were shared hundred thousand times worldwide.

From 2018 to 2022 he has been Still Photographer on Set for several international Productions including all of the seasons from HBO's My Brilliant Friend and Netflix's The Lying Life of Adults, out in Summer 2022. He has worked with many among the leading Italian directors, such as Saverio Costanzo, Alice Rorwacher, Edoardo De Angelis, Daniele Luchetti, Sergio Rubini, Matteo Garrone.

He realized through the years image covers for several bestselling books worldwide, including many international editions from Elena Ferrante's books. In 2022 he is engaged i nrealizing his first feature short movie "GIOIA", in which he is both screenwriter and director.
