Edvins Strautmanis (October 27, 1933 – August 6, 1992)[1] was an American abstract painter and sculptor.
Strautmanis was born near Liepaja, Latvia[2] on October 27, 1933 and emigrated to the United States in 1950.[1] He studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.[1] He was an art director for Playboy[3][4] and his media included both painting and sculpture. His sculpture "Phoenix" was originally on display in Hyde Park, Chicago but was later moved to the campus of Governors State University.[5] He died August 6, 1992 in Manhattan, survived by his wife Iria and two children.[1]
