Edward Dowd
Edward Dowd (born 1945)[1] is a real estate investor, financier, and philanthropist. Born in San Francisco and raised in Salinas, California, graduating from Palma School in 1963. Edward Dowd served in the Air Force and received a bachelor's degree from Santa Clara University (SCU). After college, he pursued a career in finance and investment real estate.
Philanthropy
Edward Dowd funded facilities for medical providers that help patients manage their multiple sclerosis. In 2007, Ed donated 4.1 million dollars towards the Camino Medical Group facility in Mountain View, which included a glass sculpture, titled “Joyous” by artist Dale Chihuly.[2]
In 2016, a 45,000-square-foot Edward M. Dowd Art and Art History building opened that was made possible by a 12 million dollar donation from SCU alumnus Edward Dowd. Construction included a sculpture by Dale Chihuly, titled “Persian and Horn Chandelier”.[3]
A three-million-dollar gift to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the largest gift the Society has ever received from an individual, created the Edward M. Dowd Personal Advocate Program. This program provides assistance to people who are living with the complex challenges of MS. The program aims to increase independent living capabilities and quality of life for people affected by MS.[4]
