Edward O'Connor Jr.
Edward O'Connor is a Colonel in the United States Air Force. He was assigned to the Eastern Space and Missile Center during the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. O'Connor was joined to NASA's STS-51-L Data Design and Analysis Task force.
O'Connor's team never saw the Spartan Halley payload, which was destroyed when Challenger blew up. O'Connor was acting as director (chairman) of search and recovery operations for NASA on the 51-L disaster. He had been involved in this activity since the day of the disaster. O'Connor's team subsequently recovered 25% of the debris of Challenger in the ocean.
Prior to that, he was director of operations in the 6555th Aerospace Test Group, where NASA put together the payloads that fly on the space shuttle. O'Connor had also worked on other shuttle missions.
