Background

Edward David Unekwuojo Onoja, popularly known as CEDO, is the Deputy Governor of Kogi State. He was born on August 9, 1974, into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Amodu Onoja in Odidoko-Emonyoku, Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State. He is married to Mrs. Mercy Ejura Onoja and has three children.

Educational Background

Onoja started his primary education in Lagos State, where he was one of the top graduating pupils. He attended Federal Government College, Kwali, Abuja, from 1985 to 1991, graduating with excellent results. He then proceeded to the University of Jos, graduating with a Second Class (Upper Division) Degree in Geology and Mining in 1999. He completed his compulsory National Youth Service Corps programme in Port Harcourt.

Political Career

Onoja's political career began during his university years, where he founded and served as the pioneer President of the Natural Science Students Association (NASSA), University of Jos Chapter. Driven by a passion to see a better Nigeria, he and his friends sought an audience with President Muhammadu Buhari in 2010, proposing Project 50-50-50 to support Buhari's ambition.

In the build-up to the 2015 Presidential Elections, Onoja became the Project Director of the Kogi Youths Arise Group (KYAG), mobilizing thousands of youths to campaign for the APC. He later became the Head of Campaigns and Chief Strategist for Alhaji Yahaya Bello's campaign, leading to Bello's victory as the Governor of Kogi State. Onoja served as the Chief of Staff to Governor Bello.

In the 2019 General Elections, Onoja was appointed the Director-General of APC Campaigns in Kogi State, leading the party to win all 25 state constituency Assembly seats and 7 out of 9 federal constituency seats. He also served as the running mate to Alhaji Yahaya Bello in the 2019 Kogi State Gubernatorial Elections, winning and being sworn into office on January 27, 2020.
