Edwin E. Osgood Award
The Western Region of the American Federation for Medical Research (AFMR) and Society for Clinical Investigation awards the Edwin E. Osgood award at its annual meeting in Carmel, California.[1] The award recognizes the highest rated research abstract by a student at the conference and is recognized by an honorarium and plaque.[2] It is considered one of the highest research honors for a medical/research student in the United States. The EE Osgood award includes a plaque, honorarium, and a distinguished plenary lecture at the annual meeting.
The award is named after Edwin E. Osgood (1899–1969) who made lasting contributions to hematology and experimental medicine. He made important advances in experimental hematology including a "unifying hypothesis of the cause of cancer, proposing that the absence of regulating chemicals that normally control cell growth might be responsible".[3]
