Egobots.[1] were early pre-iPhone app 3D-rendered avatars that could be sent with a text bubble as a message to a mobile phone. Egobots were highly customizable, and could be downloaded in high resolution for print purposes. While comparisons were made with WeeMees, the products operated in different market segments.

Background

Egobots.com creator David Brown[2], who previously founded Liquid Image in the TV animation & VFX sector[3], also developed a sister product Teamies.com, based on the Egobots platform. The company entered a dispute with DA Group late in 2006, following claims by Egobots that DA Group had copied their intellectual property. [4]

Awards

Egobots.com won best website at The Drum’s advertising awards in 2006, and was runner-up in two categories [Best Application, and Best Interactive Site] at the 2006 YDA, part of the London Design Festival. The company formed partnerships including Beat 106, the Ministry of Sound,[5] and Sendit.
