Egor Litvin (Russian: Егор Литвин; born April 16, 1998, Moscow, Russia) is a Russian-born civic activist, publicist, and ethnographer based in Prague, Czech Republic. He is a co-organizer of the cultural and human rights festival KULTURUS and an administrator of migrant support initiatives in Central Europe.
Early life and background
Litvin was born in Moscow in 1998. He is the son of Anton Litvin, a Russian artist, curator, and civic activist. Since 2016, Litvin has been living in Prague, where he has been involved in cultural, civic, and human rights–related initiatives focusing on migration, social integration, and contemporary culture.
Civic and public activity
KULTURUS festival
Since 2018, Litvin has been a co-organizer of KULTURUS, a festival of contemporary culture and human rights held in Prague. The festival combines exhibitions, film screenings, lectures, and public discussions addressing issues such as freedom of expression, migration, cultural identity, and human rights. It involves independent artists, curators, researchers, and human rights advocates from various countries.[1][2]
The activities of the festival and its organizing association, Kulturus z.s., have also been documented by international and regional media outlets.[3]
Anonimní Migranti
Litvin is an administrator of the psychological support courses for migrants organized within the project Anonimní Migranti. According to the official website of the Prague 4 municipal district, the program focuses on providing psychological assistance to migrant children and families, particularly in relation to school adaptation, peer relations, and communication with educational institutions.[4]
Political and human rights engagement
Litvin has participated in civic actions and public events in Prague related to human rights and democratic issues. In 2020, he was involved in protests against amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation organized abroad.[5]
Since 2022, he has publicly opposed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and has taken part in initiatives supporting Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic. He has also participated in meetings and discussions with Czech political figures and representatives of civil society.
International initiatives
Litvin has been associated with international civil society initiatives focused on human rights in Eastern Europe, including activities related to awareness of the human rights situation in Crimea and the region.[6]
Designation of Kulturus as an “undesirable organization” in Russia
In July 2024, the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office designated Kulturus z.s., a Czech-registered organization associated with the KULTURUS festival, as an “undesirable organization” in the Russian Federation. Russian authorities stated that the organization’s activities allegedly aimed to discredit Russian domestic and foreign policy.[7]
Ethnographic work
As an ethnographer, Litvin has conducted independent cultural research focused on migration, identity, and everyday social practices. He has traveled extensively, including fieldwork and documentation in countries such as India, Japan, and Morocco. Elements of this work have been presented within the educational and discussion programs of the KULTURUS festival.
Media coverage
Litvin’s activities have been covered by Czech municipal authorities, international media, and non-governmental organizations, particularly in connection with the KULTURUS festival, migrant support initiatives, and civic actions related to human rights in Russia and Eastern Europe.
