EITR is an upcoming action role playing game developed by British developer Eneme Entertainment. The game was planned to be published by Devolver Digital, however, the game is as of 3 December 2019, likely to be published by Eneme Entertainment.[1][2] Being announced back in 2014, the game was planned to be released in 2016, but got postponed indefinitely.[3] According to the french website Gamekult, the developer Eneme Entertainment was presumed to get financing help from Devolver Digital. However, the publisher has dissociated itself from the project and Eneme Entertainment is as of 3 December 2019, the sole financier of the game. According to a comment from one of the developers, responding to people recommending Kickstarter, crowdfunding is nothing they feel they have deserved and it´s also something the developers "always felt iffy about".[2] A gameplay video of the game was released on February 20, 2020.[4][5][6] The game is set to be released on PC, Mac, Linux and Playstation 4.[1][7]

Gameplay[edit]

EITR has by some been called an "Souls-like game", referring to the action role playing Dark Souls game series.[1][8][9] The game has been described as an Action RPG offering challenging combat and comparisons has been drawn to the Dark Souls combat system, where a combination of blocking, combos, buffs and positioning are needed to get through the game.[10] The game will also contain a "uniquely brutal progression system", where the player can choose between small and permanent character upgrades or stronger ones that only is available until the character dies.[8] In a interview with programmer Tobi Harper, he mentions that the player will earn "favor" which can be used to upgrade the character's stats. He also mentions that it´s possible for the player to choose which skills to upgrade, either passive or active ones. Different types of gear will also be available, particularly a shield, spear and a bow.[11]

Plot[edit]

The playable character is a Shield Maiden, who must travel to the nine realms of the Norse cosmology so she can rescue the world tree Yggdrasil from "the machinations of the trickster god Loki".[1]
