El Clasificado is a free publication, written in Spanish, that provides content, advertising, and lifestyle tips to the Hispanic community. The publication was founded on May 7, 1988, in Los Angeles as a promotional tool for Hispanic-owned small businesses in Southern California. This geographical region is the largest Spanish-speaking market in the United States, with a Spanish-speaking population of 8,421,500. According to these figures, 1 in 5 Hispanics in the United States reside in this market.[1]

History

El Clasificado was founded by Martha de la Torre and Joe Badame in 1988, with their own funding and the help of their family and friends. It was created to connect the Hispanic community to marketing, services, and information through a comfortable and versatile format. In addition to advertisements, the publication also offers information, education, and entertainment. After only ten years, the company became one of the strongest in the US Hispanic publishing market. And after twenty years, El Clasificado was recognized as one of the hundred fastest-growing Hispanic companies in the country. To this day, the publication has received multiple recognitions for its commercial success and positive economic impact on the communities it serves. El Clasificado continues to strengthen communities by offering free community events, enriching content, and job opportunities.

Within this region, copies of the magazine are found in stores, supermarkets, grocery stores, and more than 14,000 strategically located distribution points in the areas with the highest pedestrian traffic in the neighborhoods where most of the Spanish-speaking population lives or works. The publication’s effective distribution policy was verified by the independent auditing firm Circulation Verification Council[2], and has been recognized by the National Association of Hispanic Publications (NAHP) and by the National Association of Free Community Publications (AFCP) with multiple awards both for its credibility and accuracy for continued growth and success.
