Elena Franklin (born August 3, 1988)[1][2][3][4][5] is an American actress, musician, and singer-songwriter. She is perhaps best known for her role as Shane Detorre in the 2001 film Osmosis Jones and for her voice role as Mandy the head cheerleader in the 2006 video game Bully from Rockstar Games. She is now the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for the Nashville-based rock band Reality Something.[6][7]

Life and Career[edit]

Franklin was born in New York City on August 3, 1988 where she also grew up. She started her acting career at the age of 10, and at the age of 11 in 1999 her and her tango partner at the time won the Colors of the Rainbow dance competition for P.S. 11 in New York City.[6] She continued acting and played the role of Shane Detorre alongside Bill Murray in the 2001 film Osmosis Jones, guest starred in the television series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and The Unit, and provided the voice for Mandy the head cheerleader in the 2006 video game Bully from Rockstar Games, as well as roles in the films Goyband, Life Is Hot in Cracktown, The Roommate, and the TV movie The Fish Tank, she also painted, wrote, and took photographs.[8] Franklin claimed to have always dreamed of being a musician, and that Jagged Little Pill was the first CD she ever got,[8] at the age of 23 Franklin took off from acting and moved to Nashville, Tennesee where she became a musician and singer-songwriter.[6] While living with Turbo Fruits guitarist Kingsley Brock in Nashville Franklin started self-learning the guitar. Franklin claimed that she is not a great guitar player, but will write basic chords and a melody. Franklin had a handful of songs and the confidence to record them, but didn't yet have a band to play with, Franklin needed one more person to round out the sound, as well as to provide help in the studio.[6] Adam Swafford the guitarist of the band Step Sisters at the time joined in.[6] Franklin and Swafford together recorded the songs and made the first Reality Something EP that was released on Franklin's birthday on August 3, 2015.[6] Franklin had added drummer Ethan Place and bassist Bill Grasley to go along with Brock's guitar, in which the rock band Reality Something was formed.[6] Later they released the single Break It and the single Bail. They decided the best way to use their resources is to donate all proceeds from their new song to Planned Parenthood. Bail was included on tonight's soundtrack for MTV's feminist television series Sweet/Vicious.[9] There debut EP was released shortly after the election of Donald Trump to the Presidency, “Bail” came out at particularly contentious time for women's rights. States around the union were either passing or considering bills that severely limited the funding for organizations like Planned Parenthood, and the election of Trump—with his long-stated goal of repealing the Affordable Care Act—did nothing to bolster the hopes of people concerned with women's reproductive health and rights. A woman in Nashville wrote a comment on Facebook "if you want to base your vote on abortion, go ahead", Franklin claimed that made her physically sick, she said "It made me sick that she was boiling down the entirety of women’s issues to one word like that. I decided I wanted to make a statement about PP and women’s health.[6] I wanted to talk about how women’s health was so much more than just abortions", when Bail came out the band announced that proceeds would go to Planned Parenthood.[6] As of 2017 there band has been touring.
