Eleven Films is a political film production company founded in 2013 by husband and wife James and Tiffany Dugger in Portland, Oregon.
History
2013-2017, Eleven Films made videos for social media about local Portland protests, candidates, and causes.
On October 22, 2018, Eleven Films released the viral video “The #BlueWave Trailer” on Twitter and other social media. The #BlueWave Trailer has been viewed more than 6 million times on social media. The video was shared by Adam Parkhomenko, Alyssa Milano, Debra Messing, Morgan Freeman and director Judd Apatow among many others. The video encouraged voters to participate in the 2018 midterm elections.[1]
On February 4, 2020, Eleven Films released the viral video “Midnight In Washington”.[2] The video was viewed more than 28 million times on social media. Best-selling author and fellow political video creator Don Winslow wrote in a tweet on December 22, 2020, that Midnight In Washington was the “Heavyweight Champion of the world of political ads”.[3] The video was a 2020 Webby Award Honoree in the News & Politics category.[4]
On July 2, 2020, Eleven Films released the viral video “The Dangerous Ones” which has been viewed more than 12 million times on social media. The video was featured on MSNBC’s All in with Chris Hayes.[5] The video used a live acoustic performance of the song “The Dangerous Ones” which was written and performed by fellow Portlander Kasey Anderson.[6]
On October 8, 2020, Peter Savodnik from Vanity Fair wrote an article that featured Eleven Films among other viral video creators that read in part:
“On August 21 at 4:42 p.m. local time, Eleven Films, the movie studio that James and Tiffany Dugger run from the family room of their 1,400-square-foot house in Portland, Oregon, tweeted out its latest ad: “The #BlueWave2020 Trailer.” The two-minute-and-19-second spot features clips of Michelle Obama, Elizabeth Warren, and John Lewis; food lines; Black Lives Matter protests; Marines raising the flag over Iwo Jima; first responders raising the flag over Ground Zero; an astronaut jumping on the moon. It was not actually a trailer—“We just make them look like trailers,” James Dugger said. “We’re always asked, ‘When is the movie coming out?’ And we always say, ‘You’re living the movie.’” It was meant to inspire, to rally the troops in advance of the final stretch of a long and tortuous campaign".[7]
In February 2020 Eleven Films began working with screenwriter/producer Shane Salerno and author Don Winslow to create original political videos for the newly formed Don Winslow Films. Eleven Films also works with Shane Salerno's company, The Story Factory, to assist in producing book trailers for bestselling author Don Winslow, Janet Evanovich, Adrian McKinty, Meg Gardiner and Blake Bailey.
In March 2020, DemCast assisted in amplifying and raising funds for Eleven Films’ original work.
In early 2020, Eleven Films met another Portland filmmaking couple Kristen Kingsbury and Pippin Beard of Pattern Integrity Films and began collaborating on various projects. Esquire & Fast Company wrote stories about Pattern Integrity’s viral video “America Wake Up’ that featured a narrative by George Carlin from 2005.[8][9][10] In the article, Esquire describes Eleven Films this way: “In the closing credits, the producers (Pattern Integrity) also claim to be affiliated with Eleven Films, an editing house run by two Portland natives responsible for spicy, politically-minded shorts.”
On October 13, 2020, Shane Salerno in association with Eleven Films, produced the viral video #AmericaNeedsPennsylvania which featured Bruce Springsteen’s Oscar-winning song “Streets of Philadelphia”. The video went viral and has been viewed over 10 million times on social media..[11] [12]
On October 30, 2020, Remedy PAC and producer Tracy Falco in association with Eleven Films produced the viral political video “Only The Young” which featured Taylor Swift’s song of the same name. Aside from being viewed over 10 million times on social media, the video was notable because it was the first time Taylor Swift had ever allowed one of her songs to be used in a political ad. The video was widely embraced by Swift’s enormous fan base (Swifties) and was heavily shared a wide array notable democratic politicians including Vice-President Elect Kamala Harris and President Elect Joe Biden as well as Swift herself. The video received wide recognition from media outlets such as Rolling Stone, TMZ, CNN, Billboard, LA Times among others.
On November 16, 2020, Shane Salerno in association with Eleven Films produced the viral video #AmericaNeedsGeorgia which featured an original song “I am America” from Jeff Daniels and accomplished Detroit blues singer Thornetta Davis. The video has been viewed nearly 6 million times on social media.
