Elijah Joseph Green (born December 4, 2003) is an American professional baseball outfielder in the Washington Nationals organization. The Nationals selected Elijah Green with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft.
Personal life[edit]
Son of Leslie Green and former 1990 NFL 1st Round selection by the Pittsburgh Steelers and All-Pro tight end Eric Green who starred with the Steelers, Dolphins, Ravens and Jets during a 10-year NFL career.[1] Elijah and Dad, Eric, are the first father and son drafted in the 1st Round in MLB and the NFL.
Amateur career[edit]
HIGH SCHOOL: Hit .462 (36-for-78) with 11 doubles, two triples, nine home runs, 32 RBI, 15 stolen bases, 21 walks, 21 strikeouts and 40 runs scored during his senior season at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla...[2] He posted a .592 on-base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage en route to being named a First-Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball...[3] He was a pre-season First-Team All-American selection by Baseball America...[3] Ranked by MLBPipeline.com as the No. 3 prospect in the 2022 First-Year Player Draft and by Baseball America as the No. 5 draft prospect...[3] Ranked by Perfect Game as the top high school prospect in the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, by Baseball America as the No. 2 high school prospect and by MLBPipeline.com as the No. 3 high school prospect...[3] Among high school players, Baseball America cited him as the “best power hitter” and “best athlete” in the 2022 draft...[3] Following his junior high school season, was selected to participate in the 2021 Perfect Game All-American Classic [6][4] and the 2021 Baseball Factory All-American Game.[5]
Green was a member of USA Baseball’s 2021 18U National Team, where he and his teammates played in a seven-game series against Canada September 1, 2021. In the seven-game series, Green slashed .348/.444/.957 with four home runs, seven RBIs and two steals. Green’s power was on full display as well, as his four home runs combined to travel 1,715 feet.[6]

Rated by Baseball America as Washington’s No. 3 prospect, the No. 58 prospect overall and as being the “Best Power Hitter”, “Best Athlete” and “Best Defensive Outfielder” while having the “Best Outfield Arm” in the system...[7] MLBPipeline.com ranks him as the No. 40 prospect in baseball.[8] 2022: Reported to the Florida Complex League after the draft...In his first eight games he went 11-for-28 (.393) with three doubles, one homer, six RBI, four walks, one stolen base and six runs scored...He hit safely in seven of the eight games with three multi-hit efforts along the way...Hit his first professional home run in his second at bat.
