Elisa Palomino
Elisa Palomino (born 1969)[1] is a Spanish fashion designer and educator. She was appointed as Fashion Print Pathway leader at Central Saint Martins [8] the University of the Arts London in 2012.
Early life and education
Palomino was born in Valencia in 1969.[1] When Palomino was a child, her mother had a painting restoration workshop in Cuenca.[1] Palomino began her education in Fine Arts in Valencia but changed her focus to fashion and completed a postgraduate diploma in Textile Design and a Masters degree at Saint Martins School of Design.[1][2] During her study of design, she had a class with Alexander McQueen.[1]
Fashion career
Palomino began her career in fashion at Moschino before she moved to Paris and became a workshop manager for John Galliano for seven years.[1][3] She then designed for Roberto Cavalli before moving to New York in 2008 to become a vice president of design for Diane Von Furstenberg.[1][4][5][3]
In 2010, she began her own line with Tristan Von Christann.[3] In 2010, she won the Who is on Next? Fashion Freedom award.[2] By 2012, she had moved to London and was showing her fourth collection at Mercedes Fashion Week Madrid and London Fashion Week.[1][6][7][8]
Academic career
Palomino started her teaching career at Central Saint Martins [4] in 2002 as External Examiner for the BA Fashion Print Examination Board. She was appointed as Fashion Print Pathway leader at Central Saint Martins in 2012. She has sat on a range of international committees including as a panel member of International Talent Support (ITS), Mango International Fashion Competition, Remix, Bilbao Arts and Fashion. She has a teaching portfolio in a number of locations around the world: Polimoda, [10] Florence; Shenkar, Tel Aviv; Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen; Bunka Gakuen University, Tokyo; Academy of Art University, San Francisco; FIT Fashion Institute of Technology, New York; Iceland Academy of the Arts, Reykjavík; Academy of arts, Architecture & Design, Prague. Palomino's interests are in exploring design for sustainability and education for sustainable development principles [9], and cross-discipline and collaborative projects with the University and the Fashion Industry. She has run successful network projects (e.g. EU Horizon 2020-MSCA-RISE: FishSkin a Sustainable Raw Material; EU COSME WORTH project: Fishskinlab Fish leather in the Luxury Industry). She is a Fulbright Scholar at the Smithsonian Institution Arctic Studies Center. Her research, recent fieldwork and workshops can be followed at: http://www.fishskinlab.com
