Elizabeth James (born May 12, 1997) is an American researcher, philanthropist, and pageant titleholder. She is known for her work in breast cancer research and her involvement in educational advocacy across Louisiana and Michigan. James has held several pageant titles, including Miss Motor City 2021, Miss Lower Peninsula 2022, and Miss Black Michigan USA 2024.
Early life and education
James earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with minors in Biology and Mathematics from Xavier University of Louisiana, where she was crowned Miss Sophomore and served in various student government roles.
During her undergraduate studies, she contributed to a breast cancer research project that identified a novel binding site of BHPI on the estrogen receptor.[1]
While attending Xavier, James also engaged in policy advocacy, meeting with state legislators and then-Governor John Bel Edwards regarding the Louisiana TOPS Bill, which focused on maintaining equitable access to higher education.
She later received a Master of Health Sciences from Meharry Medical College, graduating with a 4.0 GPA.
Pageantry and community involvement
James has competed in and held several regional and state pageant titles, using her platforms to promote education access, women’s empowerment, and public health awareness.
She was crowned Miss Motor City in 2021, Miss Lower Peninsula in 2022, and Miss Black Michigan USA in 2024.[2]
Philanthropy and leadership
Outside of pageantry, James has participated in mentorship programs and public health initiatives. Her work has centered on cancer awareness, STEM engagement, and education equity, particularly for underrepresented communities.
James is the mother of one daughter, Windsor Sinclair Jackson (born 2025).[3]
