Elizabeth Guzman
Elizabeth Guzman is a Democratic politician running in Virginia's 31st House of Delegates district election, 2017, which is expected to be a competitive election.[1] She immigrated to America from Peru as a single mother, where she obtained degrees in office administration and management, public safety, public administration, and social work. She started a career working for the City of Alexandria as a public administrator and social worker.[2] She is running on the issues of expanding Medicaid,[3] reducing class sizes, ending stringent Standards of Learning requirements, and increasing funding for early childhood education programs like Head Start.[4] Guzman also favors raising the minimum wage and ending gerrymandering.[5] She cites steady, insulting profiling of her and her family by Prince William County officials and residents as a reason why she decided to run.[6] She lives in Dale City.[2]
Among her supporters are Pantsuit District[7] and American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 3001, which endorsed her on 17 February.[8] She is often considered a progressive-leaning candidate,[9] and she is a member of the diversity-focused Prince William Progress Coalition.[10]
