She is Professor for Hygiene and Environmental Medicine at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany. Her research area is the investigation of chemical, biochemical and molecular aspects of the toxicity of occupational and environmental pollutants and their influence on human health.

Education[edit]

Elke Dopp has studied Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at the University of Rostock in the north of Germany from 1985 to 1990. She earned her doctorate (PhD) in 1993 and completed her habilitation in 2002 at the University of Rostock[1]. There she obtained the venia legendi for the subject Hygiene and Environmental Medicine and became professor in 2010. [2]

Research activities and Earnings[edit]

For her research in the field of Cellular Toxicology and Environmental Health Dopp received a habilitation fellowship from the government of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern from 1998-2001. [3] Her research was also funded by the German Academic Exchange Service and enabled research at the Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole, MA, USA (1994)[4], the University of Riverside, Department of Entomology, USA (1995)[5] and at the University of Calgary, Department of Pathology, Canada (1998)[6].

Beside her activity as University Lecturer at the University of Rostock and at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Dopp is guest professor at the Amity University in Lucknow, India, and is doing research with Prof. Dr. Qamar Rahman since 1995. [7] Their most cited research paper [8] has been cited more than 480 times according to Google Scholar [9]

From 2001 to 2012 Dopp was member of the German Permanent Senate Commission for the Investigation of Health Hazards of Chemical Compounds in the Work Area [10], from 2005-2008 she worked as an expert in the commission of the World Health Organization to evaluate the carcinogenicity of asbestos substitute materials and from 2009-2010 she was member of an expert group of the Umweltbundesamt (UBA) to evaluate Arsenic in drinking water[11].

Dopp has written own books[12], was editor of journals[13] and has written more than 170 publications in national and international books and journals[14]. Her research activities were also of interest to the public [15][16][17][18][19][20].
