Ella Ruth Gantt (née Allison; 30 November 1886 – 28 October 2001) was a validated American supercentenarian who, at the time of her death, was the world's oldest validated living person. She is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG), and LongeviQuest (LQ).[1]
Biography
Ella Ruth Allison was born in Georgia, USA on 30 November 1886 (claimed 1888 later in life) as the daughter of Benjamin Hill Allison (1860–1948) and Alma Ida (née Alexander) Allison (1867–1948). She married Oscar Langston in Georgia around 1909 and had four children: Alma, Geneva, Freddie and Joseph. She was widowed in 1947. After the death of her first husband, she remarried to Winfred Talmadge Gantt, on 13 January 1952. He died in 1972.[1]
On 30 November 1996, she celebrated her 110th birthday, becoming a supercentenarian.[1]
On 6 June 2001, following the death of 115-year-old Marie Bremont, she became the world's oldest validated living person.[1]
Ella Gantt died in Gainesville, Georgia, USA on 28 October 2001, at the age of 114 (claimed 112) years, 332 days.[2] She was previously validated as being born in 1888, but revalidation research determined that she was actually born in 1886.[1]
