Ellengale Public School is a public elementary school in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. It is part of the Peel District School Board and serves students in junior kindergarten through Grade 8. The Ontario Ministry of Education reported a preliminary enrolment of 415 students for the 2023–2024 school year.[1]
Replacement school project and temporary relocation
In January 2024, Peel District School Board staff reported that the Ministry of Education had approved a replacement school for Ellengale Public School, planned for about 875 students, with construction expected to begin in summer or fall 2024. The board also stated that students and staff would be temporarily relocated to the former Ashgrove Public School building during the project, with transportation to be provided while the school is at the temporary site.[2]
A City of Mississauga School Walking Routes Program map (updated Fall 2025) lists a bus stop location for “Ellengale Public School” at 3215 Thorncrest Drive, Mississauga (L5L 4K7), matching the temporary site address used during relocation.[3]
Peel District School Board planning documents have described the replacement project as including an on-site child care centre, and have listed student occupancy for the project in the 2026–2027 range.[4][5]
Local reporting has also stated that the new school is expected to be finished by January 2027.[6]
Student achievement
The Ontario Ministry of Education’s School Information Finder reported the following EQAO-related achievement results for 2023–2024:
- Grade 3: 86% reading, 76% writing, 84% math meeting the provincial standard.[1]
- Grade 6: 94% reading, 91% writing, 52% math meeting the provincial standard.[1]
Student population
For 2023–2024 (preliminary), the Ministry of Education reported school population indicators including:
- 65% of students with a first language not English.
- 30% of students new to Canada from a non-English-speaking country.
- 10% of students receiving special education services.[1]
